i was approached to do this session in early october of 2015. my client wanted a totally unscripted, documentary shoot of an evening with her family in their beautifully remodeled, farmhouse. she asked me to come late afternoon to capture her young sons as they woke from their afternoon naps and stay through dinner + bath time.

when i arrived at the home of the E family, i was greeted with the warmest welcome! it felt like they were greeting an old friend they hadn’t seen in ages — they were wonderful and inviting. their eldest son had already awaken from his nap. he was a little sweetheart + it didn’t take him long to warm up to the idea of having his photo taken!

we began shooting right away. i melted into the background as the E family went about their usual routine. the love + joy in this beautiful family was palpable. as i shot away, i felt so honored to be a part of the intimate, precious moments that took place. as a photographer, having that kind of trust placed in you — to be allowed to come into a home in which you have never been, with a family who doesn’t know you at all overwhelmed me.
